Inbound Aviation’s AVI50519 Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating) is one of Australia’s most immersive and career-focused instrument rating programs. Based at Mangalore Airport – a low-traffic aerodrome that maximises your time in the aircraft – this course takes you to a fully qualified instrument-rated pilot in as little as 6 weeks.

Airline Derived Training:

Inbound Aviation is owned and operated by current mainline airline pilots. We bring you real-world practical international heavy jet knowledge, techniques and procedures. You will be exposed to scan action flows, FCOM and QRH concepts. We will teach you to be safe and make sound decisions in complex challenging environments. The skills you will learn, you will be able to apply throughout your career, regardless if you operate a Cessna 172 or Airbus A380.

Course Details

Course Overview

Flight Training
The flying component will be a practical application of what you’ve learned during your theory and simulator training. Consisting of short navigational scenarios, you will develop sound IFR decision-making and practical skills aligned with our proprietary FCOM, which will best prepare you for professional flying career.

Simulator Training
Inbound Aviation uses a CASA-certified Frasca simulator, allowing you to practise complex instrument procedures, system failures, and emergency scenarios in a controlled environment. Simulator hours count towards your rating requirements and accelerate skill development before flying the actual aircraft.

Ground School
Structured ground school sessions are delivered by your airline pilot instructors and cover IFR navigation, meteorology, airspace procedures, instrument approaches (ILS, VOR, NDB, GNSS Arrivals and RNP Approaches), and CASA regulatory requirements. Instruction is directly mapped to current airline procedures.

Multi-Crew Cooperation Course

Course Duration

Our diploma runs for 9 weeks and assumes you have not passed your Instrument Rating Exam.

Depending on your experience and if you come to us with your IREX passed, it can take as little as 6 weeks to become a fully qualified multi-engine IFR pilot.

Course Requirements

To enrol in the AVI50519 Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating), you will need:

A minimum of CASA Private Pilot Licence (PPL) – Aeroplane
A current Class 1 or Class 2 CASA Medical Certificate
A current ASIC (Aviation Security Identification Card)
A minimum 50 hours PIC Cross Country
1 hour PIC at night
A minimum of 5 hours night experience in an aeroplane

AVIY0081 – Conduct a 2D global navigation satellite system non-precision instrument approach

AVIY0045 – Conduct a 3D instrument approach
